PARLIAMENTARY COOPERATION TO BRING PAKISTAN AND TAJIKISTAN MORE CLOSER: NA SPEAKERMarch 27, 2014
Islamabad: Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has said that a sustainable progress has been registered in Pakistan-Tajikistan relations in different spheres though; strengthening parliamentary linkages would add substance to the existing bilateral relations.
He was talking to Ambassador of Tajikistan Mr. Mr. Jononov Sherali called on Speaker in Parliament House Wednesday. Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Tajikistan since both the countries were intertwined in eternal bonds of religion, culture and history.
He said that Pakistan strongly desires to enhance its bilateral, economic and parliamentary ties with its brotherly country. He said that parliamentarians of both the countries through Pak-Tajikistan Friendship group could play an important role in creating better understanding between both the countries.
The Speaker said that huge economic potential exists on either side which needs to be exploited for mutual benefit.
He said that regular interaction between the political hierarchy and trading communities of both the countries would be helpful in further exploring avenues of possible cooperation. He said that Tajikistan can help Pakistan in addressing the energy crisis in the country.
Ambassador of Tajikistan Mr. Jononov Sherali thanked the Speaker for his kind words and said that his government also strongly desires to have congenial relations with Pakistan.
He said that a stable Pakistan was imperative for the peace in the region; therefore, his government would continue its support for Pakistan on all regional and international forums.
He informed the Speaker that Tajik Legislature was also keen to cement its ties with Parliament of Pakistan. He said that Tajik and Pakistani business communities were in regular contact and has inked various agreements for mutual cooperation.
He also apprised the Speaker about the recent developments in respect of import of energy from Tajikistan.
