Pasban demands sacking cops involved in manhandling Chingchi drivers

Karachi: Pasban e Pakistan here Wednesday demanded to sack police officials involved in manhandling of the Chingchi drivers of Lyari who refused to pay them extortion money.

According to details, a large number of Chingchi drivers and Pasban activists held a protest demo in front of Karachi Press Club (KPC) to condemn the storming of the protest camp of Chingchi drivers in Lea Marker area and beating up seven Chingchi drivers by ASI of Kalakot police station Shakeel Commando and his team. These drivers were injured due to the brutal police torture.

Pasban central vice president Abdul Hakim Quaid, addressing the demo, said peaceful protest is the right of citizens. He said ASI Shakeel and his team attacked and injured the protestors of ‘Chingchi Bahali Camp’ when they refused to pay him extortion money. He said due to ongoing operation in Karachi though the extortion of terrorists has reduced but the extortion of corrupt police is still there. He appealed to the Chief Justice of Sindh High Court to take a suo moto notice against ASI Shakeel of Kalakot police station and his team for torturing the innocent protestors who were totally peaceful and their only crime was that they refused to pay extortion to Shakeel and his henchmen.

A representative of the Chingchi drivers, Saleem Pathan, said two days before Kalakot police ASI Shakeel Commando in drunken condition came to the Chingchi Restoration Camp at Hub bus terminal of Lea Market and asked the drivers to give them extortion money. On their refusal, he along with his fellow cops stormed the camp and mercilessly beat up the protesters. Resultantly, Momin Khan, Ishaq, Saleem Kasuri, Aijaz and other drivers got injured. However, some protesting women made hue and cry and saved lives of the protestors.

Saleem Pathan said in Lyari Chingchis used to ply on link streets to facilitate citizens. He demanded from the high ups of police to take action against the lawless cops.

The protestors appealed to the government to rid poor Chingchi men from the inhuman torture of Kalakot police and sack ASI Shakeel Commando and other cops of his team.
