PDMA asks beach safety on Eid

Karachi: Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh has issued advisory to provincial and federal departments including Commissioner Karachi, Deputy Commissioners of South, West, Korangi and Malir, Police, Pakistan Navy, Pakistan Coast Guards, DHA, Maritime Security Agency, Cantonment Boards and others concerned authorities to ensure all safety measures at beach on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr 2015 to avoid any eventuality.

PDMA stated that Karachi witnessed a disaster in shape of sea drowning last year during the eve of Eid ul-Fitr due to which almost 38 people lost their lives. It further stated that as Eid-ul-Fitr-2015 is nearby which necessitate taking all precautionary measures to avoid similar incident.

PDMA has advised to ensured all safety measures at beaches including early warning system through hoisting of flags; continuous beach patrolling by all concerned authorities as per their jurisdiction; ensure deployment of buoys/safety equipment; and ensure round the clock availability of life guards at beaches.
