Peace of whole region is linked with peace in Fata, governor

Peshawar: The Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sardar Mahtab Ahmed Khan has said that the peace of whole region was linked with the peace and stability in tribal areas. He said that rehabilitation of TDPs and reconstruction of tribal region was a challenging task and government is using its full potential in this regard.

He urged international community to come forward and play their due role to ensure the rehabilitation of tribesmen and the development of this marginalized region.

He stated tribesmen and our security forces had rendered great sacrifices for the peace of the entire region. He said the menace of terrorism has been controlled due to comprehensive strategy of military and political leadership adding that repatriation process of TDPs has been started and going on successfully.

He expressed these views during the meeting with the Director Operation UNOCHA, Mr. John Ging on his visit to Pakistan here at Governor House, Peshawar on Monday. Besides, Neil Buhne, Humanitarian coordinator, Pakistan, George Khoury, Country Director UNOCHA, Farman Khilji, ACS FATA,

Mohammad Aslam Kamboh, Principal Secretary to Governor Sikandar Qayyum, DG Project FATA, DG FDMA and other concerned officials also attended the meeting. The meeting reviewed the implementation of rehabilitation and reconstruction strategy for the TDPs of FATA. The meeting was also apprised about the details of the strategy.

Governor said the incumbent government was committed to root out the wave of militancy once and for all and expressed the resolve to redress the grief of the tribesmen and for these purpose steps have been taken and comprehensive strategy of rehabilitation and reconstruction of tribal areas are being framed.

He said the tribesmen had paid sacrifices for the prosperity of Pakistan and peace of the entire region, now the time has come to take steps for the welfare of the tribal people.

He stated that we have been confronting great challenges of humanitarian issues. He said the successful repatriation of displaced people was a bigger challenge and it has been met with greater responsibility adding that we need full support from international community to accomplish this task. Governor said one third of the total displaced population will be repatriated by the end of current year.

He stated the government was determined to reduce poverty and priorities are being given to the provision of basic amenities, economic development and its revival for the betterment of tribesmen. He said every possible step would be taken to make sure the rehabilitation of TDPs.

Director Operation UNOCHA while appreciating the efforts of the government especially the Governor for the successful ongoing repatriation process in tribal areas and said would continue its assistance to ensure the implementation of rehabilitation and reconstruction strategy for tribal region.

Eulogizing the role of the UNOCHA, the Governor said its role has been exemplary in rehabilitation of TDPs and appreciated the efforts of UNOCHA for their support to make this possible.
