PESCO deprives KP of 8479 MW electricity in last two weeks

Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province was deprived of 8479 Megawatt electricity by PESCO during the last two weeks. The statistics sent by PESCO to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government revealed that out of the total 202349 MW electricity generated from 8th to 23rd June 2015 the share of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province constituted at 27318 MW @ 13.5 percent.

But PESCO could utilized only 18839 MW and 8479 MW went unutilized which caused prolonged power outages in the province and added to miseries of the people.

It is worth mentioning that PESCO has started sending daily report to KP Government about Khyber Pakhtunkhwa share in daily power production and actual utilization of the said share as well.

The Chief Minister Pervez Khattak had insisted time and again for provision of such details to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government and deputed a team of the provincial energy department to assist PESCO for deriving the desired details from PESCO’s system as PESCO officials were found unable to devise a mechanism for informing the provincial government about daily allocation of the electricity quota and its utilization.

The report showed that on Tuesday 23rd June 2015, 1863 MW share was fixed for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa out of totally generated 13800 MW electricity @ 13.5 percent. But PESCO could utilize only 1354 MW and 509 MW electricity either went unutilized or diverted to other provinces.

This situation resulted in prolonged power outages in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Similarly on Monday 22 June 2015, PESCO deprived the province of 692 MW as 2084 MW was declared as share of KP in total production of 15439 MW electricity, but PESCO had provided only 1392 MW to the province.
