Philanthropists propose to beautify Custom House area

KARACHI: Collector Custom (Preventive) Tariq Huda, other philanthropists and organizations have proposed a beautiful gift “Custom House Neighbourhood Development” to Karachiites. Under the project, the area from KPT building to Hindu temple would be beautified on modern scales.

The project is planned to be made beautiful, family friendly, traffic-free and comfortable. The proposal was made in a meeting regarding this, under the chairmanship of Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Farooqui at Commissioner House.

Tariq Huda, Architect Designers Shahid Abdullah and Danish Azaar Zobi, Director Planning & Development Commissioner Office Syed Muhammad Shakib, Administrator District Municipal Corporation Muhammad Afzal Zaidi, SP traffic South, SP police south and representatives of water board, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, DMC, K-Electric, Sui Southern Gas Company Ltd. and Pakistan Tele Communication limited were also present on the occasion.

Huda told the meeting that in the first round of the project more than Rs70 million would be spent while the cost of second round would be separate. The philanthropists and organizations were enthusiastic to facilitate Karachiites with the beautiful gift by making the area around Custom House one of the beautiful places of the city.

“We have to finish the project as soon as possible after getting it started and there was no better personality than the commissioner for us in the city, who is trusted by the citizens, businessmen and organizations alike,” he said.

Huda said that the project was extended to the Hindu temple so that the confidence level of the minority could be improved on the government. The temple and its vicinity would also be renovated under the project.

Siddiqui said that the project would be an addition to the recreational and family friendly spots of the city where the citizens could visit even at night for recreational activities without any fear.

All the organizations present on the occasion vowed cooperation for the project. The commissioner formed a focal group consisting of the relevant organizations and Muhammad Shakib was named the focal person of the group.
