ISLAMABAD: Chairperson Prime Minister (PM) Youth Development Program Leila Khan on Wednesday said that the government is considering launching a one year internship program for the youth in the next few months.
In an interview, Leila Khan said that about fifty thousand internships will be provided to the Master’s degree holders in the first year. Under this scheme, each internee will be given twelve thousand rupees.
She revealed that the students of religious seminaries will also be inducted in the Skill Development Program in order to bring them in the national mainstream.
The seminary students from FATA will get three thousand rupees stipend while others will get two thousand rupees per month. Under this scheme, twenty five thousand students have so far been provided training in different fields. She said the government is also considering to launch youth training program in the next few months.
To a question about Youth Business Loan Scheme, the Chairperson said that Rs 04. 01 billion have so far been disbursed under this scheme to six thousand youth. She said private banks are also being involved in the execution of this project.
She said that Rs485 million have also been disbursed amongst over twenty three thousand youth under the interest free loan scheme. Under this scheme, she said, fifty thousand rupees are being given to each successful applicant.
She said that higher education commission has reimbursed fee of almost fifty thousand students of seventy eight universities and thirty three colleges in the first phase against budget allocation of Rs1.2 billion.
HEC is currently in the data collection process for the reimbursement of fee to the eligible students in the second phase of the scheme. She said the higher education commission will now go for upfront payment of fee for the eligible students to the universities concerned at the time of admission instead of reimbursing the same to the students at the end of the session.
Under the Laptop scheme, she said fifty two thousand laptops have so far been distributed amongst the talented students of higher education. The Planning Commission has approved revised PC-1 for the second phase of the scheme under which four hundred thousand laptops and tablets will be distributed amongst the talented students over the next four years.
She said the eligible public sector employees, who are pursuing higher education, will also be provided with laptops in future. She said the office of PM Youth Development Program monitors all the youth related schemes and its mandate is to address the relevant complaints.
