PM: (Pakistan, Qatar agree to boost ties)March 23, 2015
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif has said that Pakistan desires to enhance cooperation with Qatar in all fields, particularly energy, defence and manpower.
He said this while talking to the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani at the PM House. Stressing the need to promote bilateral trade, Mohammad Nawaz Sharif said our bilateral trade of less than 300 million dollars per annum is much below its potential.
He invited Qatari investment in Pakistan in all areas, including energy and infrastructure. The Prime Minister said Qatar is home to more than one hundred thousand Pakistanis whose remittances are making a valuable contribution to the socio-economic development of Pakistan. He said we will highly appreciate if Pakistani manpower in Qatar is enhanced.
The Qatari side expressed interest in enhancing the number of Pakistanis working in Qatar for various development projects. Both sides agreed to take measures to enhance trade and strengthen cooperation in the field of defence as well.
Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani said Qatar attaches great importance to its relations with Pakistan. He expressed the confidence that his visit will open many doors for strengthening bilateral cooperation. Later, the Prime Minister hosted a banquet in honour of the Emir.
Meanwhile, Pakistan and Qatar have signed agreements to further deepen their cooperation in the fields of education, scientific research, media, culture, youth and sports.
The agreements were signed following the delegation level talks between the two countries. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani witnessed the agreements signing ceremony.
