KARACHI: : Pakistan Medical Associations (PMA) Secretary General (Center) Mirza Ali Azhar on Tuesday demanded of the President Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) to immediately resign from his post on moral ground after induction of his and his front men’s names in Information Report (FIR) of doctor’s murder.

This he said while addressing an emergent press conference at Karachi Press Club. Ex-Member PMDC Dr Shershah Syed was also present on this occasion.

Dr Mirza said up till now PMA was fighting targeted killing of the doctors on sectarian basis or the criminals involved in extortion and kidnapping, but recently, a young innocent doctor’s murder case was reported in the media. He said ironically, this murder was blamed on the sitting PMDC’s president and his front men involved in extortion in the name of clearing examination of PMDC to get practicing license.

He explained that according to this case, this young man Dr Zubair Khan graduated from China and came back to Pakistan. He said Dr Zubair wanted to clear the examination of PMDC to get a practicing license. He was contacted by Ajmal who asked for Rs 1.5 million and assured him that he will get pass the exam. He said after few days, a group of more people comprising Masood Hameed, Amjad and Iqbal Khattak met Dr Zubair and asked for more money (Rs.0.4 million).

He said this group of people threatened him with dire consequences if he informs about this money exchange to anyone. He said eventually the poor doctor paid the amount and somehow or the other he was taken out to hospital where he was allegdly injected some drug. “The doctor lost his life.” Now the FIR was registered on the order of the court against Masood Hameed, Amjad, Ajmal and Iqbal Khattak. In this murder case two other names are also involved Dr Imdad Khushk and Dr Shaista.

He said in the past, we were always concerned about the stories of financial corruption and mismanagement in the affairs of PMDC but now a case of murder is registered against the sitting President of PMDC and his front men.

He said Ministry of Health and Federal Government had miserably failed to address the issues of PMDC and it looks that the Ministry of Health was not only trying to solve this mystery but protecting the criminals and suggesting to have a dialog with them to settle the long standing issues of PMDC.

Dr Shershah demanded of PMDCs President and Minister of National Health Services Regulation and Coordination to immediately resign from their posts as they both lost confidence in medical fraternity.

They demanded of the government to investigate the murder of doctor and to bring culprits to justice. He said: “As the PMDC President’s name was inducted in the FIR, therefore he must resign from his post and present body of PMDC should be dissolved on urgent basis.”

They appealed to the Army Chief General Raheel Sharif and ISI Chief General Rizwan Akhter to save important national institution from vested interest group.
