KARACHI: Karachi Election Tribunal on Monday declared the election of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Federal Minister of Industries and Production Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi to a national assembly (NA-211) constituency in Naushehro Feroz as invalid for possessing a fake degree.

The tribunal pronounced that Pakistan People’s Party candidate Zulfiqar Behen being runner-up was lawful winner.

The election of PML-N candidate was challenged by Zulfiqar who accused PML-N candidate of possessing fake graduate degree and rigging polls. He said Jatoi was not sagacious, righteous, non-profligate, honest and Ameen as per contemplation of Article 62 of the Constitution and Section 99 of the People’s Representative Act as he falsely claimed that he was a graduate.

PPP candidate alleged that Jatoi also did not disclose his assets and liabilities. PPP candidate asked the tribunal to declare the election of the returned candidate as void on account of his disqualification. However, PML-N candidate denied the allegations about degree. He ruled out claims that he did not disclose his assets and was a tax defaulter.

The tribunal headed by a former judge of Sindh High Court Dr Zafar Ahmed Khan Sherwani in view of testimonies and affidavits of witness declared the election of PML-N void and Zulfiqar Behen successful candidate.
