Police baton charge protestors, use water canon

KARACHI: Police on Thursday resorted to baton-charge and used water cannon to disperse dozens of National Programs for Improvement of Water (NPIW) contract employees protesting for regularization of their jobs on the third consecutive day outside the Karachi Press Club (KPC).

According to details, police took action as the protesting employees started to march towards Chief Minister (CM) House but at the corner of KPC, a police party deployed there started baton-charge and used water on protesters. Resultantly, three protesters were injured and they fell unconscious.

Later, the protesters shouted slogans against the Sindh government.

Wajid Mohammadi, leading the protestors, said police arrested their five colleagues, Shaik Lakher, Gulzar Ahmed Suhag, Akbar Ali Dharejo, Mohammad Ashraf Malik and Ghulam Akbar, who were protesting to press their demand of regularizing their jobs and paying them pending salaries.
