Police claim 50 terrorists killed, 22 arrested since 23 Dec 2014

KARACHI: “Under the National Action Plan, Karachi Police has conducted 7136 targeted raids/holds up & combing/search operations in different parts of the city.

Resultantly, 378 police encounters took place and more than 50 terrorists were killed and 22 others arrested. Police also recovered over 77 kg of explosives, 118 bombs/grenades and four suicidal jackets during the period from December 23, 2014 to March 21, 2015”.

This was informed at a high level meeting held here at Central Police Office under the chairmanship of Inspector General of Police Sindh, Ghulam Hyder Jamali to review the police performance in accordance with the National Action Plan.

Additional IGP Karachi Ghulam Qadir Thebo in a NAP implementation report informed that around 175 cases were registered against misuse of loudspeakers and 60 accused were arrested. “However, after promulgation of ‘The Sindh Sound System (Registration) Ordinance-2015’ the directive has been issued accordingly to gear it up, he maintained.” He further informed the meeting that two new Ordinances have also been promulgated – the Sindh Information of Temporary Residents Ordinance-2015 and the Sindh Security of vulnerable Establishment Ordinance-2015.

The meeting reviewed the recently promulgated Ordinances in detail. It was informed to the meeting that under ‘The Sindh Security of vulnerable Establishment Ordinance-2015’, the Deputy Commissioner of a district has to constitute a committee at the Sub-Divisional level under the DSP/SDPO to conduct survey of buildings/accommodations and to declare it vulnerable or not; and to submit suitable recommendations. IGP Sindh stressed upon the District SSsP for immediate consultation with the Deputy Commissioners to get the Sub-Divisional Committees notified. IGP also directed to get the Ordinances translated in Urdu and Sindhi languages and pass it on to all SHOs in the Province for even implementation.

The meeting also reviewed in detail the monitoring system/procedure of the 4th Schedule and registration of Madrasahas. It was decided to prepare and distribute Performa among Madrasahas for obtaining all relevant details. IGP also constituted 2-member committee including Additional IG Karachi and DIG Special Branch for effective monitoring of 4th Schedule and information collection/survey of Madrasahas. The meeting was further informed that strict surveillance was being made by Police at all entry/exit points across the province in close co-ordination with Rangers and other LEAs for ensuring comprehensive monitoring and result-oriented targeted operation.

Jamali directed that small search groups at police stations level may also be constituted to hunt for criminal elements/terrorists especially around government offices/ residential areas, educational institutes/schools buildings, vital installations and all public places to foil the possible nefarious designs of anti-state and anti-social elements.
