Police demolishes 234 illegal hydrants: Report

KARACHI: Police have demolished some 234 illegal hydrants and removed 2130 illegal water connections from the main line during various targeted actions in the city.

It was informed to the IGP Sindh GH Jamali in a report that on 22.1.2015, District and Sessions Judges Malir and West, constituted two committees in compliance with the Supreme Court directives. The first committee is headed by SSP East for the action in Districts Korangi, East and South, whereas other committee, which is headed by SSP West, was tasked for action in Districts West, Central and South (partially).

It was further informed that the representatives of KWSB, notables and elected representatives of the respective areas were also included in the committees. It was informed in the report that the entire operation is being conducted in proper coordination with Executive Engineers of KWSB and members of the committees.

Actions on all the identified illegal hydrants and water connections are 100%, so far. It was revealed in the report that since the operation started, 58 FIRs have been lodged, 45 accused arrested and 85 accused challaned.

The IGP Sindh while reviewing the report issued directive to ensure proper strategically coordination of police with the other committee members, in letter and spirit, to achieve the desirable results.
