Police remove 2310 illegal water connections, 234 illegal hydrants: report

KARACHI: Karachi police have removed 234 illegal hydrants and 2130 illegal water connections in the city.

IGP Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali was informed by police that in the light of Supreme Court orders two committees were formed under District and Sessions Judges of Malir and West on 22 Jan 2015. SSP East and SSP West led these committees, respectively. Representatives of Karachi water and sewerage board and representatives of concerned areas were also included in these committees.

SSP East was given the responsibility to take targeted action against illegal hydrants and illegal water connections in South, East and Korangi districts, while, SSP West was given West and Central districts responsibility.

According to submitted report that 100 percent action was taken against illegal hydrants and illegal connections.

Police arrested 45 accused and registered 58 FIRs and also booked 85 challans.

IG Sindh issued directives after review of the report that police should assure full coordination with committees to get desired results through targeted actions against illegal hydrants and illegal water connections.
