Political crisis: Malik predicts positive development in two daysSeptember 3, 2014
KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarian (PPPP) leader and member of opposition’s negotiating team, Rehman Malik on Thursday said that the deadlock between government-led by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, and Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf and Pakistan Awami Tehrik has ended and there would be a positive development within two days.
Talking to media at a local hotel, Malik said that he had asked Prime Minister Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif to induct such people in government’s negotiating team who are polite and could maintain a better environment for talks so that the situation could move in a positive direction.
He said that Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif and leaders of PTI and PAT had shown positive response in ending this crisis while the members of opposition’s negotiating team were doing their best to resolve this crisis.
He said that current democratic system has got a complete support of parliament and the elected members stand with democracy and the current system. “No one can de-seat or remove the prime minister from his position unless the constitution is followed,” he said.
Malik also appealed MQM Chief Altaf Hussain to refrain from resigning from current assemblies and said this would further complicate the situation.
He said that it has become a national issue as to how the two roads in Islamabad could be cleared of protestors on the arrival of Chinese President.
Giving reason for using word Jirga for opposition negotiating team, Malik said that the opposition negotiating team was formed on the suggestion of PPPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari. “Zardari asked me to form a collective political forum, I discussed the issue with opposition members where someone suggested that it should be called a jirga,” he said.
Malik criticized Qadri for speaking against PPP leader Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and said that his party would not tolerate anything against Bhutto and they had conveyed their reservations to Qadri. “Qadri gave this statement in a pressure situation and he had assured me to withdraw his words,” he said.
