Pollution: Minister seeks registration of crushing units

KARACHI: Provincial Minister for Environment, Parliamentary Affairs, and Coastal Development, Dr Sikandar Mandhro on Tuesday directed the environment department’s officials to bound all crushing units making crush from limestone and other minerals to follow environmental laws because pollution generated by them is harmful to human life.

Mandhro said in a meeting that all crushing units across the province should be given awareness through a notification for their registration with their relevant institutions, and action should be taken against those showing reluctance in getting them registered within given time period.

Mandhro also directed the officers to bound crushing units to strictly follow the environment laws. The meeting was attended among others by Secretary Mines Zahid Memon, Director General Environmental Protection Agency Naeem Ahmad Mughal, Chief Inspector Mines Syed Irshad A Jeelani, and other officers.
