Powers of officials raised to combat dengue disease

Karachi: Health Department Sindh has given powers of health inspectors to assistant commissioners and Mukhtiarkars for prevention, awareness and implementation of Sindh Prevention & Control of Dengue Temporary Regulations 2013 across Sindh province.

Dengue Prevention & Control Program Sindh has also issued Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to control dengue virus prevalence. These health inspectors would issue notification to home and building residents, who cause spreading of dengue, to implement precautionary plan to prevent dengue, while action would also be taken over violation.

Health Department Sindh has also issued Sindh Prevention & Control of Dengue Temporary Regulations 2013 on 6th December 2013 for prevention of dengue virus but after eight months delay, health inspectors were powered across the province to implement law about dengue prevention.

Information shared by Dengue Prevention & Control Program Sindh revealed that health inspectors had been powered across the Sindh province. These officials like district health officers, EDO Health Karachi, town health officers, district officers preventive or assistant district health officer, deputy town health officers (Admin), deputy town health officers preventive, taluka health officers, surveillance officers, union councils medical officers, senior director medical services KMC, director health district municipal corporations East, West, North, South, Malir, Korangi, additional director health district municipal corporations East, West, North, South, Malir, Korangi, chief sanitary inspector health district municipal corporations, inspectors health DMC, sub-inspector health DMC, all malaria supervisors of Karachi’s corporations, malaria supervisors of health Department Sindh, sanitary inspectors of territory-cares hospitals, all the Mukhtiarkars of province, all assistant commissioners and in-charges of Rural Health Centers(RHC) had been given powers of health inspectors to implement Sindh Prevention & Control of Dengue Temporary Regulations 2013.

As per notification, health inspectors under Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) would take precautionary measures to prevent dengue virus. In this connection, the trend of cases, reporting, referral diagnostic, treatment and surveillance of vectors would be done by health inspectors. The health inspectors would ensure fumigation and its surveillance in their respective areas.

Dengue Prevention & Control Program Sindh has issued SOPs to health inspectors in which duties were assigned to officers.

Secretary General Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Karachi Qazi M Wasiq said PMA has always supported the result oriented efforts of health department which benefits public and patients. He said dengue virus is dangerous so practical steps should be taken to eliminate virus. He said, “We will appreciate the result oriented efforts of government and condemn the misuse of funds for public interest.”
