PPP to send donated blood for army troops in N Waziristan

KARACHI:,,, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Thursday announced to collect blood donations on the occasion of 61st birthday of slain PPP leader Benazir Bhutto and send them to the Pakistan Army for personnel fighting militants in North Waziristan.

Addressing a press conference at PPP media cell along Senator Saeed Ghani and other party leaders, PPP Karachi Division President Abdul Qadir Patel said that 10 blood camps would be established on 21-22 June 2014 in different districts of the city. “The blood collection will be a tribute to our slain leader which would then be given to Pakistan soldiers in North Waziristan, as well as, to children suffering from Thalassemia.”

He said that a large number of people had already registered themselves with PPP to donate blood and it would be a biggest campaign ever witnessed in the country.

Responding to the issue of Lahore firing incident and threats to democracy, he said that his party would continue to support democracy in the country; however, they would not support killings in the name of democracy. “Lahore-type incidents had occurred during dictatorship eras,” he said adding that it was for the first time that the democratic period had witnessed such event, which was a shame.

The PPP leader also criticized federal government for its alleged discriminatory behaviour over export of mangoes to European countries from Sindh. He said that a private firm with the cooperation of federal government had been exporting mangoes to European countries from Karachi; however, they were creating hurdles in this regard now.

He said that the federal government was not allowing local exporters to send their mangoes from Karachi airport, while the exporters in Punjab are allowed to export mangoes from Lahore airport.

“15,000 ton of mangoes have been offloaded from Karachi airport which caused a loss of $3000000 to the exporters,” Patel said.

He demanded of Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to intervene into the matter and give equal opportunities to the exporters.
