Karachi: Sindh Branch of Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) puts its “Urban Emergency Response Teams” on high alert, especially for the coastal areas of Karachi to deal with any possible emergency due to Tropical Cyclone Ashobaa and heavy rains.

According to a statement issued by Sindh Red Crescent, in order to complement the response efforts of the Emergency Response Teams (ERT), PRCS Sindh ambulances along with the paramedics will also be on standby to respond to any emergency. The ERTs have also identified the evacuation routes. The evacuation will be conducted with the coordination of the responding agencies in the area.

The tropical cyclone Ashobaa, currently located at around 700 kilometres south of the city, has turned north-west towards the Persian Gulf, missing the Sindh coast.

Based on the information, the Red Crescent control room is activated at the Provincial Headquarter Hilal-e-Ahmer House Clifton Karachi for maintaining coordination.

PRCS Sindh Management also requested Commissioner Karachi to issue necessary orders to the relevant departments of Commissioner Office to coordinate with Red Crescent Disaster Management Department for further preparedness measures.
