PWA launches voluntary blood donation drive

Karachi: Patients Welfare Association (PWA), Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK), on Wednesday launched blood donation campaign in the premises of Dow Medical College (DMC) to promote regular voluntary blood donation and to eradicate misconception regarding blood donation prevalent in the society.

Doctors, students and faculty member of DMC and CHC supported the cause by signing the petition under the theme “I pledge to be a regular blood donor”.

A PWA volunteer, Maryam Gul Muhammad, talking to media persons said PWA organized a blood camp at DMC by formally lunching the blood drive to promote voluntary blood donation culture in the society.

She said 50 to 70 blood bags were expected to be collected from blood camp started. She said event was planned for the promotion of regular voluntary blood donation and eradication of misconception in this regard.

Maryam said PWA would organize blood donation camp in every four month in future in order to promote voluntary blood donation culture in the society.

She said PWA was a student run non-governmental organization run by the students of Dow Medical College since 1979 within Civil Hospital Karachi providing free of cost medical services to the destitute patients through its blood bank with an annual output of around 90,000 blood packs and TB general follow up with over 300 registered patients and Thalassemia services with 275 registered patients.

The drug bank and diagnostic lab were also fulfilling the needs of countless patients every year.
