Rally against non arrest of killers of journalists

QUETTA: If killers of Quetta journalists were not arrested hunger strike camps would be setup in front of Press club all over the country. Still they were not arrested journalists would rush to Quetta to stage dharna.

This was announced by President Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists Afzal Butt while addressing a rally taken out under aegis of Balochistan Union of Journalist and PFUJ under his leader ship here Monday. Rally was taken out against target killing of Secretary General BUJ and Bureau Chief Online News Agency Irshad Mastoi, Reporter Abdul Rasool and Accountant Mohammad Yunus in their office.

A rally of human chain was taken out from Press Club which marched on various city roads reached in front of Balochistan High Court and provincial assembly.

Human chain was also formed by Member Executive Committee BNP Khursheed Jamaldini, President Balochistan Editors Council Anwar Sajidi, Secretary General Nadir Zamarrud, President Jamiat Akhbar Darosham Haji Mohammad Yusuf, Secretary General Abdul Nabi Sumalani, Acting Secretary General BUJ Chaudhry Imtiaz and large number of journalists.

Afzal But, Irfan Saeed, Razaur Rehman, Saleem Shahid, Vice President Balochistan Bar Association Qayyum Lehri, Vice President Supreme court Bar Association Abdullah Jan Kakar, Chairman Balochistan Bar Council Munir Ahmed Kakar in their speeches on the occasion said that nearly 40 journalists have been killed in Balochistan but their killers were not arrested yet. Federal and provincial governments have failed to provide security to the journalists.

Afzal Butt announced if killers of journalists were not arrested then hunger strike camps would be organised outside press club in the country for three days. Even then killers were not arrested “Chalo Chalo Balochistan Chalo” campaign would be launched for the journalists. He was of the view now attacks on media houses have also started. Media workers were tortured during recent dharnas. PTV building was attacked once and Geo officers were attacked at least ten times. And even reports of these incidents were registered. He said that workers at the Geo offices were facing mental pressure.

President BUJ Irfan Saeed said we have tired by shouldering bodies of our colleagues still our morale is high and we would not sit with rest so long killers of journalists are brought to the net of law.

President Press Club Razaur Rehman said that several days have passed but killers were arrested so far. He was of the view journalists demonstration shows they are untied and would remain united.
