Rangers lauded for thwarting Karachi jail break: Govt considers shifting some prisoners to other jails

KARACHI: Provincial Minister for Jails Manzoor Hussain Wassan paid a surprise visit to a house in Ghausia Colony adjacent of the Karachi Central Jail on Monday where the rangers had raided and unearthed a tunnel being dug up by terrorists to get freed their jailed associated.

On the occasion, Home Secretary Sindh Niaz Ali Abbasi, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh for Jails Nusrat Hussain Mangan, DIG Jails Ashraf Nizami and other officials were present.

Wassan also visited some parts of Karachi Central Jail and reviewed the security measurements and instructed jail officials to increase security inside and outside the Jail.

While lauding the performance of Director General Rangers Sindh and law enforcement personnel he said timely action thwarted the nefarious design of terrorists. Three terrorists involved in this crime have already been arrested and they are being interrogated, he said.

He said Sindh Government has recommended forming a committee to investigate the incident. He said in view of security concerns, certain prisoners could be transferred to other jails.
