Raza, Zaid enter tennis tourney semifinals

Karachi: Raza Sawani and Zaid Noor cruised into the semifinals of men’s singles even of the 3rd Indus Pharma Open National Ranking Tennis Championship here on Tuesday at Karachi Club after beating their respective opponents in quarterfinals.

Raza Sawani found little resistance from Aqeel Shabbir and was leading the match by 6-2, 5-0 score before Aqeel retired from the match.

Meanwhile, the match between Zaid Noor and Salman Butt was tied at 3-3 before Salman retired from the match.

Meanwhile, in U-18 quarterfinal encounter Ibrahim Iltifat recovered from a set down to beat Nazif Ahmed by 3-6, 6-1, 3-0 score.

In another last-eight match of the event, Marib Malik defeated Sameer Meer by 6-2, 6-0 score.

Nauman Aftab also advanced into the semifinals of the event after beating Saad M Ali by 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 score.

Raza Sawani recorded an immaculate 6-0, 6-0 victory against Shiraz Bhund and made it to the last-four stage.
