Remaining National Seniors Cricket Tourney matches to be played in September

Karachi: The remaining matches of 17th National Seniors Cup Cricket Tournament 2015, being organized by the Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association (PVCA) will resume in September.

Fawad Ijaz Khan Chairman PVCA said that the national final of this tournament usually takes place every year during in April or May but because of lot of rains in Punjab and KPK during last three months a lot of matches could not be played.

Fawad said we have decided now not to play matches during June, July and August because of hot weather.

The majority of the matches have already been completed and we are heading towards the decisive phase. The tournament will conclude with the national final to be contested between the champions of northern and southern zones. The final to be telecast live for the first time in the tournament’s history will be taking place at the National Stadium, Karachi, the PVCA Chairman added.

Karachi Gold Bridge Media has already booked its place in the Southern Zone final and they will be taking on the winners of the other semifinal due to be held between Karachi Omar Associates the defending champions and Sukkur.

The Northern Zone tournament is also nearing the regional knockout stage. Vital Stars, Turk Plast, Aftab Qureshi and Golden Eagles have already made it to the quarter-finals in the Central Punjab segment while Kohat Seniors, Charsadda Reds, Peshawar Blues, Mardan Greens, Mardan Seniors, Eleven Star Peshawar, Peshawar Blues and Swabi Seniors have taken their spots in the quarter-finals of the KPK-Islamabad event.

Askari Greens, Sialkot Seniors, Gujranwala Seniors and AN Sports Sialkot have made it to the last eight in North Punjab while Multan Tigers, Multan Whites, Bahawalpur Seniors, Muslim Eagles Multan and Okara Seniors have progressed to the quarter-finals in South Punjab.

A record number of 109 teams from 61 cities from all over the country had entered the annual tournament, being sponsored by IMI Omar (Pvt) Ltd and Arif Habib Group. PVCA has been organizing this tournament every year for last consecutive 17 years since 1998.
