Remand extended for 1 day in Zehra murder case

KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court-III (ATC-III) on Monday extended the remand of two accused, Muhammad Rashid alias Master and Zahid Abbas Zaidi, to police custody for one day in a Zehra Shahid murder case.

Police produced the accused before ATC-III judge under tight security.

Investigation officer Mubeen Ahmed requested the court to allow further physical remand of two under detention accused as the police wanted to further investigate them so that the whereabouts of their absconding accomplices could be ascertained and they could be arrested. The court accepted the police request and remanded the accused to police custody till 14 October.

According to prosecution, Muhammad Rashid was arrested on 25th September and remanded to police custody from 26 September to 12 October while Zahid Abbas Zaidi was arrested on 2nd October and remanded to police custody from 3rd to 12th October.

Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf founding leader Zahra Shahid was gunned down soon after the general elections in 2013 outside her home in Defense Housing Authority on 18th May 2013.

The case, FIR 198/2013, was registered under Section 302 premeditated murder and 34 common intention of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti Terrorism Act at the Gizri police station.
