Resolution to be tabled in SA for extending rangers powers: Khuhro

KARACHI: Sindh’s Senior Education Minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said on Wednesday that rangers’ responsibilities in Sindh are aimed at eradicate target killings, extortion menace, and terrorism. According to Article 147 of the Constitution, rangers must seek the prior approval from Chief Minister Sindh for any action. Rangers should also follow the Article.

Talking to media at Sindh Assembly Building, he said a resolution will be tabled in Sindh Assembly’s session to discuss the matter. He said that rangers was called to support the police in restoring the law and order situation in Sindh. He said it is mandatory to call the rangers through approval from Sindh Assembly, which is not implemented yet so in the first stage, it would be necessary to seek the approval for extending rangers power from the Provincial Assembly of Sindh.

Khuhro said that a resolution regarding rangers’ powers will be present in the assembly session in which the members will express their views.

He said the resolution will openly presented before all parties on the assembly’s floor, where every member in the session will have chance to discuss the matter and give opinion.
