Karachi: Twenty-five pairs contested the Eid Milan Bridge Pairs contest held at Aslam Bridge Hall last evening under the auspices of Karachi Bridge Associates. It was a barometer pair superbly conducted by M. Azwerul Haque and Saim Siddiqui. The experienced pairs were stunned by a irreproachable rally from
Ahsan Zahir Rizvi and Anwer Kizilbash pair, as they reached at the top of the ladder from the third round, when Tariq Rasheed-Zeenat Azwer were the early leaders. Once they came at the top nothing could stop them, and they won the title with a stunning percentage of 64.96 in this field where almost all the known and most experienced pairs were competing and giving tough time to their opponents. Another experienced duo of Saleem Zaki and Ghulam Muhammad put up very impressive performance to finish second with a score of 60.23 followed by third experienced pair of Mazhar Ali Khan – Reza Naqvi 55.87 percent.
From the other direction, father-son pair of Ghaffar Qureshi – Zulfiqar Qureshi had an edge over experienced pair of Ziaullah Baig – Hamed Mohiuddin to win the contest having 61.46 as against 60.63, just an hairline difference. Tehsin Gheewala and Hasan Askari, another pair of national ranking put up spirited fight, but their effort fell short by a whisker and they occupied third berth having scored 59.59 percent.
