Rs218700 fine charged from 168 profiteers

KARACHI: In crackdown on profiteers, 168 shopkeepers were charged with Rs 218700 fine for selling commodities above government rates. Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at fixed rates.

He further said that city administration had focused those areas where complaints against price hike were received. These areas included Saddar, Garden, SITE, Baldia, Orangi, Ferozabad, Jamshed Quarters, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulzar-e-Hijri, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Model Colony, Bin Qasim and Korangi.

In the crackdown, 96 milkmen, 33 shopkeepers of general commodities, 12 chicken sellers, 14 vegetable sellers, 12 fruit sellers and a meat seller were fined for selling essential items at excessive prices.
