KARACHI:: : The token money of Rs80 million will be distributed among traffic policemen next week which had been pending since 2008.

Traffic police including constables and officials will get their token money of 15 percent on challans that were imposed on traffic law violators during the routine check in the metropolis since last 2008, said DIG Traffic Dr Amir Ahmed Shaikh while talking to PPI on Thursday.

Amir said, as Traffic Police Department has ensured the accountability in its department and had punished corrupt officials and constables so it is also very necessary to reward honest policemen with cash prizes which were approved by Sindh government last year in its budget.

He said he had dismissed at least 60 officials and constables from their service on the account of misconduct from the Traffic Police Department to ensure better system of traffic.

He said reward money was approved since last 2002 for traffic police as a token money on imposed challans on law violators but it had been stopped since 2008.

After taking notice of Supreme Court on blockage of reward money to traffic police, the Inspector General of Police Ghulam Hyder Jamali and Home Minster Sohail Anwar Siyar issued directive to him to ensure transparency during the distribution of the money among traffic police, DIG added.

DIG said the said money is transferred in his account so it will be distributed among traffic police next week.
