SAARCLAW elects Mehmood Mandviwalla as its next President

KARACHI: Barrister Mehmood Mandviwalla was unanimously elected as the next President of South Asian Association for Regional Co-operations in Law (SAARCLAW) at the 13th SAARCLAW Conference and the 10th Chief Justice Conference held in Kathmandu, Nepal.

SAARCLAW, now in its 25th year, is an association of the legal communities of the SAARC countries comprising judges, lawyers, academicians, law teachers, public officers and is duly registered with the SAARC Secretariat at Kathmandu as a Regional Apex Body of SAARC.

Barrister Mandviwalla upon his successful election as the President, stated, I am humbled by the trust reposed in me to take up the responsibility that has been ably handled by my predecessors former Chief Justice of Bhutan, the Hon. Lynpo Sonam Tobgye (retd.), and Chief Justice of Nepal, the Hon. Kalyan Sheresta.

There is a need to harmonize our national laws, and work for the development of regional policies and laws where issues are of regional dimension. I look to work with international and regional organizations to forge mutually beneficial partnerships, He further added.

Barrister Mehmood Mandviwalla has been practicing law for the past 30 years. He graduated from the London School of Economics and was called as a Barrister at Law from the Lincolns Inn. He is the senior partner of the law firm Mandviwalla & Zafar and serves on the Board of several multinationals in Pakistan.

The 13th SAARCLAW conference was attended by a strong delegation from Pakistan i.e. The President of the Supreme Court Bar, Syed Ali Zafar, the former President, Yasin Azad and Sindh High Court Bar Association President, Mr. Khalid Jawed.
