Safoora carnage: Physical remand of 4 accused extended

KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday extended the physical remand of four suspects allegedly involved in Safoora bus carnage to police till 28th June 2015.

Police produced the accused Tahir Hussain, Saad Aziz, Mohammad Azhar and Hafiz Nasir before the ATC judge amid high security in cases pertaining to illicit weapons possession and Safoora bus attack cases. The investigation officer requested the court to extend the physical remand of all the accused as they were required for more investigation. The accused were allegedly involved in attacking a bus carrying passengers of Ismaili community.

According to the prosecution, the accused were arrested by Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) after an encounter on 20th May 2015 from Gulshan-e-Maymar. Four hand grenades, 9MM pistols, Kalashnikovs and a car were seized from their possession. All the accused were in police’s custody from 22nd May.

At least 45 people belonging to Ismaili community were killed and several others injured when unknown assailants targeted them near Safoora Goth on 13th May 2015.
