SAGA Premier Women Cricket League commences today

Karachi: Top national women cricketers will be seen in action when SAGA Premier League commences today (Tuesday) at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

The inaugural match will be played between SAGA Punjab and SAGA Sindh while the second match of the tournament will be played between SAGA KPK and SAGA Baluchistan at the same venue also on Tuesday.

“We had also invited international players to participate in this league. However, things didn’t worked out none came mainly due to security apprehensions,” SAGA Vice President Haleema Munir said while speaking at a press briefing on Monday in Lahore.

“But in the next edition, either foreign players would be part of this tournament or it would be organized in Qatar in order to attract foreign players. It would be very helpful for our players as they get international exposure as well,” she added.

NCA Director Game Development Aizad Syed, Pakistan Cricket Board GM women wing Shamsa Hashmi and all the four captains of the participating teams were also present on the occasion.

Aizad said that this tournament will help in the promotion of women cricket and also hoped that this event would bring young and promising talent in PCB’s radar.

PCB GM women wing Shamsa Hashmi said that daily two matches would be played and in all, six matches will be played while the seventh will be final to be played between the top two teams of the tournament.

“With top national cricketers are participating in the tournament, I am expecting better and competitive cricket. Those talented players, who will perform well, will get chance to play at higher level,” Shamsa said.

The participating four teams are SAGA Punjab, SAGA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, SAGA Sindh and SAGA Balochistan.

SAGA Punjab team comprises Javeria Khan (C), Sadia Yousaf (vc), Muneeba Siddiqui, Aliya Riaz, Subhana, Emum Javaid, Ramin Shamim, Waheeda Akhtar, Sidra Nawaz, Noreena Khalil, Hina Azam, Sana Taj, Fajr Naveed and Tayyaba Al Hussaini.

SAGA KP team consists of Bisma Maroof (c), Nida Dar (vc), Fareeha Mahmood, Almas Akram, Umaima Sohail, Saniya Khan, Maham Tariq, Nashra Sindhu, Sabiha Zulifqar, Saniya Ashraf, Diana Baig, Rabail Qureshi, Kainat Hafeez and Saima Maqsood.

The players of SAGA Sindh are Aiman Anwar (c), Ayesha Zafar (vc), Rabiya Shah (wk), Sidra Ameen, Anum Amin, Javeria Rouf, Sadia Khaliq, Bakhtawar Iqbal, Ghulam Fatima, Fazila Akhlaq, Elizabeth Barkat, Noreen Yaqoob, Hafsa Amjad and Farwa Batool.

SAGA Baluchistan team consists of Asmavia Iqbal (c), Marina Iqbal (vc), Sumaiya Siddiqui, Sana Urooj, Nataliya Pervez, Naila Nazir, Bader Un Nisa, Razia Malik, Hafsa Khaliq, Zara Hashmi, Soha Fatima (wk), Ayesha Amjad, Shumaila Fakhar ud Din and Khadija Chishti.
