SBP SMS service receives overwhelming response

Karachi: The SMS service (8877) initiated by State Bank of Pakistan as pilot project has received overwhelming response of the general public as people in 28 cities availed this service for obtaining fresh currency notes.

According to the details, by the close of business on 14th July, 2015 a total of 277,499 member of general public have applied for SMS facility as per the procedure, out of which 164,882 have already availed the fresh notes from 150 branches in 28 cities.

Keeping in view the overwhelming response of general public vis-à-vis the arrangements made during the pilot project, SBP has decided to stop issuing new transaction codes as from 1:00 am on 15th July, 2015 with a view to facilitate a large number of general public who have already obtained transaction codes to collect fresh notes from the branches of their choice before close of business on 16th July 2015.

It may be recalled that SBP vide its Press Release dated 6th July, 2015 and advertisement that appeared in leading newspapers on 7th July, 2015 shared with general public its intention and the procedure for use of the mobile SMS services as a pilot project for issuance of fresh currency notes to interested individuals.

The general public is advised not to send further SMS to 8877.
