KARACHI: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday directed DIG Police Hyderabad Sanaullah Abbasi to ensure that the property belonging to Hindu community is not illegally occupied.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Tasadduq Hussain Jilani, who headed a three-member bench of SC, resumed the proceedings in the matter regarding alleged encroachment on the land of temple. A day earlier, the chief justice had taken notice of the report that appeared in a newspaper about protest against encroachment on the land of Kali Mata temple in Hyderabad.
According to report, a crowd, including members of Hindu community, staged a protest outside Hyderabad Press Club, seeking removal of the encroachment on the land of the temple.
Kirshan Kumar, one of the participants in protest, said that some influential persons belonging to ruling party had encroached upon the land and demanded action against encroachers.
Pursuant to the court directions, AIG legal Ali Sher Jakhrani submitted a report of a committee formed to probe the matter. The report said that the land in questions does not belong to the temple and it remain at long distance from temple.
“Alleged piece of the land located in the vicinity of the temple is the property of SITE Hyderabad, which was allotted in 1982 and then transferred in name of Sarfraz Khokhar in 1999. Some area of the land has been encroached upon by the neighbouring Hindu Community while lucrative front of land at commercial auto Bahan Road was under dispute by two land mafia groups”, said the report.
