Secretary Defence visits DHA City KarachiApril 23, 2014
KARACHI: Lt Gen (R) Asif Yasin Malik Secretary Defence, Government of Pakistan and Chairman Governing Body (DHA) visited DHA City Karachi (DCK) to review the ongoing development projects in the area. Administrator DHA Brig Muhammad Abdullah accompanied the Chairman Governing Body during the visit and briefed him on the progress of various projects.
Project Director (PD) DCK, Brig (red) Muhammad Rafique also gave a briefing on the ongoing development projects under the Immediate Action Plan (IAP). The work on these projects was in full swing and the projects including Boundary Wall and Track, Watch Towers, Main Entrance Gate, DCK Directorate Office, DCK Central Facility Building, Staff Accommodation and Access Road etc would be completed by the end of the year. PD DCK said that DHA has also initiated work on Short Term Development Projects to make DCK liveable by 2016. The project director also briefed Secretary Defence on the plans for development of a unique Theme Park and an International Health Care City in the area. DHA has also signed an agreement with PTCL for ICT Works so as to make DHA City Karachi as the first Smart City of Pakistan.
Leading Project Consultant Arif Osmani informed Secretary Defence that around 80% works on project under Immediate Action Plan which include construction of major roads, sector development works including internal roads, water supply, sewerage, storm water drainage, electricity and gas works would be completed as per stipulated time line.
“Two wind masts have also been installed at DCK for recording the wind data to be utilized for generation of renewable wind energy. Planning for development of solar energy and independent power generation is also afoot which would make DCK self-sufficient in energy requirement. There is abundance of underground water of high quality to meet the DCK’s water requirements. A number of wells have already been dug with success.”
The Secretary Defence visited various sectors of the project including sector 3, 5 and 7 and appreciated the ongoing fast track development work on the site. He said that the commitment, dedication and professional exuberance with which DCK project was being developed. He asked DHA to ensure international standard infrastructure development of the project.
At the end, Administrator DHA, Brig Muhammad Abdullah thanked Secretary Defence Lt. Gen (R) Asif Yasin Malik for his whole hearted support and confidence in the organization.
