Seminar held on aware masses on smoking hazards

Peshawar: Realizing the importance of need to aware masses regarding smoking hazards on health and mobilization of youth to play more active role in discouraging people from smoking, a seminar was organized by PEAD organization here at an education center Peshawar.

Organized at Brain Post Graduate College, Peshawar, the event was attended by Peace Education and Development Foundation, senior program coordinator Shagufta Gul, Social Mobilizer Farhan Khan and a large number of male and female from the college. The speakers during the session observed that smoking attracting the youth, who were already going through the panics without having any earning to maintain their lives. Similarly some of the youngsters were prompting by the domestic issues to start smoking as a source of relief.

It was told to the students that smoking can lead them towards cancer including lungs and mouth cancer and other health problems like blood pressure and heart diseases. PEAD representative, Ms. Shagufta on the occasion clarified that the basic aim behind organizing the session was to aware the students on section-6 of anti smoking law to ensure its implementation with sharing the negativities of smoking.

While sharing their views, students called upon the government to ban smoking in public places and public transport as well as ensure there must be a ban on advertisements related to smoking. They said this type of activity is the need of the time to aware more and more youth by conducting it in all educational institutions of the country to convince youth that to quit smoking.

Meanwhile PEAD volunteer, Ms. Saima, who is also a student of journalism department of Sarhad University, in collaboration with Lady Reading Hospital (LRH), arranged a free eye screening camp here at Government Girls Primary School, Sheikh Abad Peshawar. During the camp, a medical team from LRH screened around 200 girls for refractive where around 80 girls were got with Error. Addressing the occasion, Ms. Saima said in the first phase, preliminary screening was conducted to check whether children were facing any eye problems. In the second phase, treatment would be given to identify children and hoped more such camps would be organized with the support of PEAD and LRH.
