Seminar on Figurative Language Analysis heldSeptember 30, 2015
KHAIRPUR: An MPhil seminar was held in the Institute of English, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur on Thursday, which was presided over by Prof Dr Mohammad Yousuf Khushk, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences & Arts.
Ms Saima Larik spoke about the importance of seminar on Figurative Language Analysis: a Stylistic Study of Sylvia Plath’s Confessional Poetry, under the supervision of Prof Dr Ghulam Mustafa Mashori, Director, Institute of English and Literature.
Ms Saima Larik, Research Scholar, said, stylistics is the branch of Applied Linguistics. She said figurative language is a deviation from the ordinary mode of expression. She said, her research work is related with the applicability of linguistic theory stylistics in the field of literature in the American poetry.
Prof Dr Mohammad Yousuf Khushk, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences & Arts said that the research work was presented by the research scholar is according to research design in term of qualitative in nature, descriptive, textual and contextual analysis.
Prof Dr Ghulam Mustafa Mashori said that the data collection procedure of research scholar is based on primary and secondary sources. He emphasised that more and more research should be done on Sylvia Plath’s poetry because it not only reflects the male dominated society of her time but also of today’s male dominated society and gives voices to suffered women to fight for their rights.
Prof Dr Abdul Majeed Chandio, Dr Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, Mohammad Hassan Shaikh, Ms Paras Niaz Khaskheli, Abdullah Joyo, Abdul Rasheed Soomro, Ibrahim Khokhar, Syed Farooque Shah Rashidi, and large number of research scholars and students attended the seminar.
