Several encroachments removed in SITE

KARACHI: Several encroachments, including hotels, bus, stands, state-owned land, illegal water hydrants and unlawful parking lots, have been removed from SITE area during a six-month campaign against encroachments.

This was stated in a letter sent by Assistant Commissioner SITE Abdul Jabbar Shahani to Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui. He said that several other state institutions, including rangers, police, municipal administration of Karachi West and SITE Association, assisted him in the long-run campaign to remove encroachments from the area.

Giving details of recovered encroached land, he said that it included demolition of 250 hotels, removal and shifting of old bus stand and old truck stop on Manghopir road at Valika Hospital and Ghani Chowrangi respectively. He said that several encroachments were removed from SITE area, Shershah road, Hub River road and Manghopir road.

He said that two acres of state land were also recovered near Shershah drain while 1.5 acres of land recovered near Afza flyover.

He said that action was also taken against mafia involved in stealing water which included dismantling of mafia from Banaras Chowk to Pathan colony and demolition of two buildings having hidden illegal water storage. He said that more than 1000 illegal water connections were removed from Shershah with the help of KWSB which effectively restored better supply of water in the adjoining areas.

He said that action was also taken against illegal truck, rickshaw and bike rickshaws parking lots in Rasheedabad Road, Paracha Chowk, Habib Bank Chowrangi, Nauras Chowrangi, Simens Chowrangi, Binoria Road, and other areas.
