KARACHI: Provincial Minister for Information & Archives Sindh Sharjeel Inam Memon said on Friday that some parties and people wanted to derail democracy but as usual it was flourishing.

“The journalism and political parties are playing similar role for taking democracy to high. If someone wants to take extrajudicial step, the he will fail in his bids,” he said while talking to media at Karachi press club (KPC), where he was invited by KPC management as guest. He announced the grant of Rs 1 million to establish Auditorium and Gymnasium in KPC besides unveiling that he would distribution extra plots among the working journalists.

Sharjeel said there was need to ensure responsible journalism for stability of Pakistan. He said those persons, who got benefits during the dictatorship era, were feeling uncomfortable in the democracy. Talking about Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf members resignations from Sindh Assembly, he said Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani had called them for verification.

Replying to a query, the minister said that he respects Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) leader Pir Pagara but whatever Arbab Ghulam Raheem said was foolishness.

He said their government was fully supporting growers of sugarcane and willing to give them the rate of RS 180 but on the other hand, the Sugar mill owners had approached the door of Supreme Court, now it the responsibility of apex court to do justice with growers.
