KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday directed Inspector General of Sindh police to provide security to former home minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza who had sought Rangers’ security.

Headed by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto, SHC bench disposed of the petition after the Rangers excused from providing security to Dr Mirza as they have been already busy in ongoing targeted operation in the province.

Rangers’ lawyer informed the court that paramilitary force is really busy in the targeted operation as well as making security measures for upcoming local government elections. According to Rangers’ counsel, currently they lack more contingents and are unable to provide Dr Mirza security.

According to Sindh’s advocate general, there are no security concerns for Dr Mirza. Security will be given to every person who needs this but Zulfiqar Mirza does not require any security, he said.

Rebel PPP leader submitted that bungled attack was recently made on his life in district Badin only because he is contesting the local government polls. He submitted to the court there are grave threats to his life.

After the excuse of the paramilitary force from providing security to Dr Mirza, SHC directed IG Sindh to take every possible step for the security of Dr Mirza.
