SHC directs IGP to make sure SHOs’ attendance in court

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday directed the Inspector general of Sindh police to make sure appearances of SHOs in the court in missing person cases.

SHC bench headed by Justice Irfan Saadat gave the instruction to IGP while hearing a petition seeking whereabouts of Mohammed Rehan who has been missing since 6th June 2015.

SHO Baloch Colony police station was directed to appear before the court on Thursday’s hearing but he is called absent, SHC issued his arrest warrant on the sum of Rs25,000.

The court observed that whenever SHOs are called to appear before the court in missing person cases they sent their officials, which is not acceptable.

SHC directed IGP Sindh to make sure the attendance of SHOs before the court whenever they are called. He was further directed to issue instructions to his SHOs in this regard.

The court was hearing the petition filed by Abdul Ghaffar Khan who moved the court against law enforcers for illegally detaining Mohammed Rehan.

The petitioner submitted that Mohammed Rehan was at his home in Karachi’s Manzoor Colony on 6th June 2015 when the Rangers officials entered and took him away and he has been missing since then.

Citing home secretary, DG Rangers Sindh and police, as respondents, the petitioner prayed the court to direct the respondents to produce the detainee before the court and disclose the reason of his arrest.
