KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Thursday awarded 10-day protective bail to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Abdul Rauf Siddiqui, who was nominated in a terrorism-related case for listening to the MQM chief Altaf Hussain’s outburst criticizing the country’s security agencies.

A division bench headed by Justice Mohammad Ali Mazhar approved the bail for Rauf Siddiqui against the surety bond of Rs50000.

Around 100 cases have been registered against Altaf Hussain under the clauses of the Pakistan Penal Code and Sections 6 and 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997 for making remarks against the military establishment and other national security agencies in his speeches.

The applicant’s counsel said that in a case registered with Malir district’s Sukkun police station, the complainant had nominated his client alleging that he attended the public gathering and listened to the Altaf’s speech. However, the counsel, said no case is made out against his client and pleaded with the judges to grant bail to his client, enabling him to appear before the trial court and face the charges.

In the case, the complainant stated that the MQM chief criticized the government, and the country’s security agencies, adding his slandering remarks hurt his feelings.
