KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) issued on Monday bailable warrants for the arrest of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) deputy managing director and in-charge hydrants for allegedly flouting its stay order against dismantling water hydrants at Moulvi Tameezuddin Khan Road.

A division bench headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah issued bailable warrants in sum of Rs 100,000 for the arrest of Najami Alam, deputy managing director KWSB and Rashid Siddiqui in-charge hydrants KWSB.

The bench issued bailable warrants on a contempt of court application filed by Mohammad Rafiq Sia who impleaded Sharjeel Inam Memon provincial minister for local government, Najami Alam, Rashid Siddiqui and KMC administrator as alleged contemnors.

Applicant represented by counsel Mehmood Ahmed Khan stated that he was running a legal sub-soil water hydrant at Moulvi Tameezuddin Khan. He said that a division bench had restrained KWSB authorities from taking any coercive action against him in respect of his water hydrant in October 2013, when he approached the court against illegal dismantling of his hydrant by KWSB.

Despite the court order, alleged contemnors demolished his water hydrant which is tantamount to contempt of court, he said while requesting the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against alleged contemnors for defying court orders.

During hearing on Monday, the bench expressed annoyance over the absence of KWSB officials who were asked to appear before it on next hearing. Hence, the court issued bailable warrants for their arrests.
