KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday issued contempt notice to commissioner Malir and deputy director (Land)for forcing traders to evacate the cattle market in defiance of the court order.

Headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, a division bench was hearing a petition filed by Baloch Khan and others who moved the court citing deputy commissioner Malir Qazi Jan Mohammad and deputy director (Land) Sohail Yar Khan as respondents.

The petitioners submitted that they were selling sacrificial animals at Road No 9, Bhains Colony, Bakra Mandi in the Bin Qasim Town in District Malir and regularly paying the necessary charges and the entry fee on arrival of the animals to the cattle market.

However, they said, some officials belonging to KMC and the Malir DMC were harassing them and asking them to remove their sacrificial animals.

While granting their request, the petitioner said, the court on September 19 had restrained officials from taking any coercive action against them. However, they added, despite court’s order alleged contemnors were still visiting them and forcing them to vacate the place.

Therefore, they said alleged contemnors have failed to comply with the court order and requested the court to proceed against them for contempt of court and convict them.
