SHC issues notice on missing persons petitions

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Wednesday issued notice to provincial home secretary, Sindh police chief, director general of Rangers and other respondents to file comments on a number of petitions against detention of citizens by the law enforcers.

A division bench headed by Justice Sadiq Hussain Bhatti directed the provincial law officer to ensure filing of comments by the respondents before next date of hearing.

Petitioners, the relatives of detainees Nizamuddin and Khalid Aman submitted that the former was picked up from Gulshan-e-Iqbal and the latter from Nagan Chowangi by the personnel of law enforcement agencies; however, their whereabouts had not been till date disclosed.

Another petitioner submitted that Ali Asad and Mohammad Fahad were whisked away by the paramilitary troops on April 07 but their whereabouts were still unknown to their relatives.

The relatives of detainee Arslan Qamar stated that he was picked up from Shahrah-e-Faisal by the Rangers personnel and since then there was no clue to his whereabouts.
