SHC issues notice on petition for recovery of missing person

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday issued notice to home secretary, Rangers director general, provincial police chief and other respondents to file their respective comments on a petition against illegal detention of a school principal.

A division bench of SHC headed by Justice Ahmed Ali M Shaikh was hearing a petition filed by Umair Anwar seeking recovery of his father Muhammad Essa Anwar.

The petitioner said that his father, who is principal of Aasanamal T Ojha Government Boys Primary School Lyari, was picked up by personnel of law enforcement agencies on August 29 from the school. He said that his father was kept in unlawful detention by law enforcers as he was not involved in any criminal activity.

He said that he approached higher officers of LEAs to get his father released but to no avail. He requested the court to order law enforcement officers to produce his father in court.

Meanwhile, the court sought comments from law enforcement officers on petition seeking whereabouts of two missing brothers, said to be, activists of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam.

The woman petitioner, Sirbala stated that her two sons, Shafiullah supervisor in a garment factory and Inayatullah a prayer leader were taken away from a mosque in New Saeedabad on August 15 by personnel of LEAs and since then they were missing.

She told the judges that her sons were not involved in any criminal activity yet they were detained by LEAs. The court was requested to order LEAs officials to produce her son in court.
