SHC seeks comments in detention cases

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Wednesday issued notice to the director general of Rangers, Sindh police chief and other police officials to file comments on several petitions against detention of citizens by the law enforcers.

Petitioner, Asad Mehmood, the colleague of a detainee, submitted that an Islamic teacher, Mohammad Azhar Saeed, a Islamic teacher at Madressa Jamatul Hasnain Old Raviyan Society, was picked up by the personnel of law enforcement agencies from his residence on June 16 and since then his whereabouts were unknown.

Petitioner, Shama Naz, wife of a detainee submitted that the Rangers personnel had raided her house on June 16 and had taken away her husband Qaiser Mehmood. She added that there was no clue to his whereabouts since then.

Another petitioner, Firdous Jabeen stated that her brother Mohammad Akbar Khan was taken into custody from his house in Musharraf Colony on June 16 by the law enforcement agencies and till date his whereabouts were not disclosed.

Petitioner Saima Naz told the judges that her spouse Mohammad Shoib was picked up by the Rangers from his house and his whereabouts were not disclosed since then, which is violation of the fundamental rights.
