KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday directed police officials to place on record the JIT report on the alleged illegal detention of missing man by paramilitary forces.

A division bench headed by Justice Ahmed Ali M Shaikh was hearing a petition filed by Muhammad Usman seeking whereabouts of his brother Farhan, who has been missing since Dec 7, 2013.

The petitioner submitted that Muhammad Farhan, was picked up by plainclothes on Dec 7, 2013 from Manghopir area and since then he had been missing.

He said that an FIR was also lodged with the police station concerned about his missing but no effort was being made by law-enforcers to locate his brother. The petitioner said that his brother was kept in illegal detention by law enforcers as he was not being produced before court of law if he was involved in any criminal activity.

He requested the court to direct law enforcement officials to produce his brother before the court. During previous hearing, the court directed the home secretary to constitute a JIT for investigation into allegations of detention of a man by law enforcers and submit its report by 28. On Thursday, SDPO Manghopir appeared before the judges and requested for some time for submission of JIT report.

The bench while granting request of police official adjourned the hearing of case till September 18.
