KARACHI: The judge of Sindh High Court (SHC), Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto on Wednesday declined to proceed with Rangers plea challenging the change of an Investigation Officer of terrorists’ treatment case registered against Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and former petroleum minister, Dr Asim Hussain.

SHC bench headed by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto while declining to proceed the matter, observed that matter may be placed before any other bench in which he is not a member. According to sources, SHC Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah sent the petition to the bench, headed by Justice Ahmed Ali M Sheikh, which will likely to take up this petition on Thursday.

Earlier the Rangers moved the court against the change of IO of the case registered against Dr Asim at North Nazimabad police station. In the petition, the paramilitary force stanched that IO of the case was changed on dishonesty basis, initially Rao Zulfiqar was appointed as IO but later he was replaced by DSP Altaf Hussain.

“DSP Altaf, new IO of the case, is not interrogating impartially but favouring the accused”, the rangers stated.

Earlier on 25th November, the FIR was registered against Dr Asim at North Nazimabad police station. In the FIR PPP leader was accused of providing medical facilities to terrorists and wanted criminals belonging to a political party and notorious Lyari in his Hospital. The FIR said that Dr Asim made illegal appointments and granted contracts on bribes during his tenure as Petroleum Minister.

Dr Asim was arrested on 26th August 2015 and since then he was either in Rangers, police or National Accountability Bureau’s custody.
