Sindh CM approves wheat price at Rs 3450 per 100 kgSeptember 15, 2014
KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah while keeping in view the interest of general consumer and farmers of Sindh, has approved the previous issue price of wheat at Rs3450 per 100 kg for current financial year to maintain the atta price which according to him was bellow than other provinces in Pakistan.
He said that we had earmarked Rs 3 billion for the wheat subsidy but this decision to consume additional amount of Rs 1.7 billion and raise total figure of subsidy on wheat up to Rs 4.7 billion to benefit the people.
Besides, the Sindh government has spent more than Rs 1 billion till yet to provide wheat to the people of drought affected areas with free of cost and this process was in progress.
He said that his government was ready to spend additional amount of Rs 1 billion and added that provision in this regard had also been made. This he decided while presiding over a meeting regarding fixing of wheat issue price at Chief Minister House Karachi today.
Advisor to Chief Minister for Finance Syed Murad Ali Shah, Principal Secretary Food Saeed Awan, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Allumdin Bullo, Secretary Finance Sohail Rajput, Additional Secretary Food M Khalid Kaim Khani, Director Food M Bachal Rahpoto and other officers attended the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, the chief minister Sindh said that the Sindh government was spending such huge amount to keep flour prices as affordable to common man and directed the officers to evolve a mechanism prevailing prices may not go up.
The chief minister Sindh also directed the officers of food department to keep strict vigilance on the movement of wheat and ensured that it may not be smuggled to other countries.
He said that PPP government was not only working hard for food security but to protect the rights of the growers as well and supplement them to ensure more and more agrarian production in the province.
The Secretary briefed the meeting about wheat procurement, available stock position, comparatively province wise issue prices, atta prices and subsidy position.
He said that as against target of 1.300 MMT, the provincial food department had procured 1.216 MMT wheat. He said at present food department had 1,194,210 MMT wheat available in its stock, which according to him was sufficient for the requirement of province.
